Press release from Chairsman of Governors for our Ofsted Inspection Jan 10th-14th 2000.2nd March 2000; PRESS RELEASE; OUTSTANDING ATTITUDES, BEHAVIOUR AND RELATIONSHIPS AT ISLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL!; Cowes Primary School was inspected in January by five highly experienced Ofsted Inspectors who had completed more than three hundred and fifty Section 10 school inspections between them.; The governors and staff were gladdened with one of the inspections main findings, namely, "The attitudes, behaviour and personal development and relationships are an outstanding feature of the school."; The governors were also very pleased with the judgements relating to good teaching; very good pupil behaviour; very good management and leadership; very supportive parents, good provision for Special Needs and pupils for whom English is a second language.; Rod Nicholls, the Chairman of Governors comments were, "I was so pleased in 1996 when the school received a good all round report. This current report is even better and is outstanding in many ways. We can all be heartened by our collective achievements."; Robert Montgomerie, the Head Teacher of Cowes Primary stated, "All the credit must go to the parents, governors, teachers and non teaching staff for an excellent sustained team effort. We mustn't forget the pupils themselves who work hard, play hard and remain courteous and well mannered at all times. I am proud to be the head of Cowes Primary."; As with all inspection reports there are areas for improvement. The governors are already in the process of actioning a plan to meet the issues identified by the Ofsted Team. The areas for improvement are: to provide an adjacent play area and more helpers for the under fives; to ensure that all teachers use daily assessment to inform their planning; to offer more opportunities to teach literacy skills through other subjects and finally, to offer more challenge to higher-attaining pupils.; In the final analysis the governors and head teacher felt that schools were about adding value to pupils lives and learning. The governors felt that we are achieving this as a school as the inspection report stated, "Taking into consideration the well below average pupil attainment on entry and that pupils make good progress in attaining average standards by the time they leave the school, Cowes Primary School is an effective school."; These comments and numerous others in the thirty seven page report are particularly heartening to any professional engaged in educating children. The whole report is available at the school to any interested parties.; On behalf of Cowes Primary School Governing Body ; Rod Nicholls; Chairman of Governors Back to top |
